Senior Vice President of News
Bill Church is GateHouse Media's Senior Vice President of News. He is a two-time Pulitzer jurist and joined GateHouse in 2013 as the executive editor of the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He recently served as southeast regional editor for GateHouse.
Church was named GateHouse Media’s 2014 national Editor of the Year. The Herald-Tribune has won numerous national awards during his tenure, including a Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting in 2016.
Director of Product Development
Carlene is a member of GateHouse Media's News & Interactive division, which provides training and support to newsrooms throughout the country. Cox started at GateHouse in 2007 as an editor with the Suburban Life newspaper group. Prior to that, she was the managing editor of the Tonawanda (N.Y.) News.
Tim has spent decades in various newsrooms — some print, and some broadcast. He was a sports reporter, news reporter, and then managing editor of his hometown paper, the Tonawanda (N.Y.) News, where he led an award-winning editorial page. He's worked as an editor, staffer or longtime contributor with the Arizona Daily Sun in Flagstaff, the Mesa Tribune, the Arizona Republic, the alt-weekly Buffalo Current, and the Niagara Falls Gazette, where he was executive sports editor over four dailies — spearheading coverage of the Buffalo Bills and Sabres. He also worked as a weekend anchor and reporter at Buffalo's ABC-TV affiliate, WKBW, and was the news director of WLVL-AM in the Buffalo market, where he hosted a daily two-hour talk show covering local politics and current events. He moved to Austin to join GateHouse in early 2015.
Director of Digital Audience Engagement
Penny Riordan manages digital audience engagement for GateHouse. She works out of the Center for News and Design in Austin. Prior to joining the company, she worked at Patch.com for four years, where she led social media, blogging and UGC efforts for the company. She also launched a Patch site in Maryland. Penny has also worked as a reporter and editor at newspapers in Maryland and Connecticut.
Senior Director of Content
As senior director of content, Jean develops strategy and works with newsroom leaders on digital transformation, from newsroom structure to using analytics to inform news decisions. As journalists face myriad challenges, the best are experimenting with new ways to draw readers in, while fearlessly tackling watchdog reporting and sticking up for the underdog. Hey, there's hope for us yet.
