AP Stylebook rules for fall

Depending on where you live in the country, it may or may not quite feel like it, but fall has officially fallen.

Despite the temperature, there’s no time like the present to brush up on fall season AP terms.

When referring to the season, lowercase both autumn and fall.

All four seasons are lowercase as well as derivatives such as springtime, unless part of a formal name. For example, the Detroit Fall Beer Festival.

Fall holidays such as Columbus Day, Halloween, Veteran’s Day, and Thanksgiving Day are all capitalized.

The first Sunday of November marks the end of daylight saving time. Not “savings.” Do not hyphenate.
