Only one more week until Christmas! It’s time to decorate the tree, bake some cookies, wrap presents, and brush up on a few spirited Christmas terms found in The AP Stylebook.

Christmas, Christmas Day – if Christmas falls on a Saturday, the federal holiday is observed the Friday before. If it falls on a Sunday, the federal holiday is observed on Monday. Bonus day off!

Christmastime – one word

Christmas tree – lowercase tree and other terms such as card, wreath, and carol. The one exception is when referencing the National Christmas Tree.

fruitcake – one word

gingerbread

Kriss Kringle – derived from the German word, Christkindl, meaning baby Jesus.

New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day
